The first taste of summer, with temperatures in the mid-ninties, brought out a bumper crop of food and wine lovers.

A laid-back afternoon under the welcome shade of the big oak trees provided the perfect atmosphere to enjoy a plentiful variety of local fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses, olive oils, chocolates and more.

Regular Farmers' Market shoppers, Thomas Hill Organics, Robins Restaurant, Luna Red, Novo, Apple Farm and The Gardens of Avila joined a host of local chefs, brewers and winemakers providing a bountiful selection of tantalizing dishes and award-winning beverages.

Charter Oak Meats, Ralph Johnson Farms, Cirone See Canyon Orchards, Joy Cup Chocolates and Dark Nectar Coffee were among the NCFMA farmers and food vendors on hand to tempt festival goers with their unique flavors.

It was a sumptious and relaxing summer afternoon (in April!) in Templeton.

"We need to wean the American food system off its heavy 20th-century diet of fossil fuel and put it back on a diet of contemporary sunshine."
Sunshine vs oil
Sunshine vs. Oil

Michael Pollan (author of "The Omnivor's Dilema") has a fascinating essay in the New York Times Magizine about the relationships between the health of our food system, energy policy and the environment.
