Citrus Season at
Farmers' Market

Lemon zest
Put a little ZEST in your life!

There are so many wonderful things in the market all through the winter. We have dry farmed, sustainable apples (90 varieties), sapotes, pears, persimmons from Mike Cirone in See Canyon, avocados, lemons, numerous varieties of squashes from Dos Pasos Ranch in Cambria, organic pineapple guavas and kiwis from Haussler Organics The greens, red peppers and beans are fabulous looking and NPO (Nurses Pistachio Orchard) is back in the market with their wonderful pistachios. Bassetti Vineyards from Cambria -- only the second winery in the county to come to the markets -- introduced their delicious wine this Saturday, along with their dried flower arrangements, olives, and kits for the public to cure their own olives.

New at the Baywood Market on mondays, JERK CHICKEN and other Caribbean dishes prepared by The Caribbean Place. They're making great fresh food on site for a great quick meal at the market, or take it home with some salad fixin’s for an easy and delicious family dinner.

"We need to wean the American food system off its heavy 20th-century diet of fossil fuel and put it back on a diet of contemporary sunshine."
Sunshine vs oil
Sunshine vs. Oil

Michael Pollan (author of "The Omnivor's Dilema") has a fascinating essay in the New York Times Magizine about the relationships between the health of our food system, energy policy and the environment.
